What is Samchikivka art?

Samchykivka Art is a decorative folk art style from Samchyky village (about 300 kms west of Kyiv) and abounds in vibrant uplifting colour with hidden fauna that entices the imagination.

‘The tradition of decorative painting of the village of Samchyky’ is included in the National list of elements of intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine.

Who is this workshop for?

The workshop is designed for adults with different levels of art practice. I will be glad to see beginners and novices, because we are sure that everyone can create!

What materials are used?

During the workshop, you will create a sketch of your pencil drawing and learn how to work with acrylics. All materials will be provided, so that you can dive into the creative process.

Who is leading the workshop? The workshop will be led by Anna Mykhalchuk.

Anna Mykhalchuk (b.1986) is a Ukrainian artist living in Hobart since 2022. She is working in a decorative folk-art style called Samchykivka. Her work explores themes of diversity of nature, connections with people, and the ability to see and feel more.

What is unique about Samchykivka Art Class?

The uniqueness of the art class is in its creative and non-standard process, you never know what your final work will look like until you make the final brush stroke.

The immersion into the creative process will be done in stages, giving you the opportunity to listen to yourself and try to express your feelings and emotions through shape and colour.
You will be surprised how different and similar the artworks will be from the participants.

Why can't you miss it?

At the workshop, you will learn more about Ukrainian culture, get acquainted with the cheerful Samchykivka painting, learn about the past and present of this colourful decorative painting and create your own painting in this style.
